"The malware is able to perform multiple functions, including possible information collection, device exploitation, and blocking network traffic", the Federal Bureau of Investigation warned in its advisory. They say VPNFilter is able to make the routers inoperable and can also potentially collect information from the router.
The device is called a router, and a half-million of them have been compromised in 54 countries. It is a temporary fix that forces the attackers to re-infect the router.
Technology conglomerate Cisco's Talos Intelligence researchers revealed in a report last week that 500,000 routers made by Linksys, MikroTik, Netgear, and TP-Link had been infected with VPNFilter.
