Twitch Prime, a service the streaming video site offers in partnership with its parent company Amazon, will no longer be ad-free for new members starting September 14. Depending on how many games that ends up being, this could severely cut the savings Prime members receive when buying new games.
Advertising is an important source of support for the creators who make Twitch possible.
If that wasn't bad enough, all existing monthly subscribers will be rolled over to advertisement viewing on October 15, after which they will also have advertising included. If you already have an annual subscription, or if you upgrade to an annual subscription before September 14, you will continue with ad-free viewing until your next renewal date.
After this change goes into effect, there will still be a way for users to get ad-free viewing on Twitch, although it will require a subscription to an additional service called Twitch Turbo.

Twitch said it dropped the ad-free viewing experience to generate more money, but not necessarily for itself or for company parent, Amazon.
While it's a bit disappointing to see the perk taken away, Twitch seems to be using the freed up resources to focus on better freebies in the future. Since launch, the company has given out free monthly channel subscriptions, free games, and in-game loot as part of the program.
In addition to cutting back the new game discount, Amazon has also eliminated the Twitch Prime benefit of "Ad-Free Viewing Experience Across Twitch", which no longer appears on the Twitch Prime benefits page as of an update this morning. You can always cancel later if you decide to change your mind.
But just because Amazon is bringing ads to Twitch Prime doesn't mean you'll have to watch any adverts going forward.
