Ricciardo, 29, retired while running fourth in the race when his vehicle shut down just eight laps into the event.
Following his retirement from Sunday's United States Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo's current boss, Christian Horner, couldn't allow the opportunity to slip by without taking another dig at the Australian's future employers.
"It was exactly the same failure as in Bahrain earlier in the year, where it looks like a major issue in the energy store and it just takes out all of the power", Horner said.
Verstappen took a grid penalty in Austin and started from 18th position, yet his aggressive driving style enabled him to fight his way to the front of the field.
"A stunning drive from Max again today starting eighteenth and finishing the first lap in ninth", said Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team principal Horner.
