Donald Trump's former campaign chairman Paul Manafort has violated his plea agreement by lying to the FBI and special counsel investigators after pleading guilty to federal charges, according to a court filing.
Attorneys for Manafort wrote in the filing that Manafort "has provided information to the government in an effort to live up to his cooperation obligations".
Paul Manafort, former campaign chairman for US President Donald Trump.
Manafort, though he has not made public statements since his plea, was thought to be the star cooperator in the special counsel's ongoing probe.
But Manafort, too, called for the judge, Amy Berman Jackson, to set a sentencing date.
"After signing the plea agreement", the filing read, "Manafort committed federal crimes by lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Special Counsel's Office on a variety of subject matters, which constitute breaches of the agreement".
The D.C. court filing brings to a head weeks of speculation that Manafort's cooperation with the special counsel could be breaking down.
In the plea deal, Manafort plead guilty to conspiracy against the US and obstruction of justice, related to allegations of witness tampering.
The filing was an astonishing break from the bare-bones updates given by the special counsel's office in other cases where cooperators continue to help Mueller pursue Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election and alleged coordination with the Trump campaign.

Rui Hachimura leads Gonzaga past No. 1 Duke
With the victory , Gonzaga runs its record to 6-0, whereas Duke drops to 5-1 on the season, this early out the gate. It all started with a couple of plays by Tre Jones and Williamson with about 16 minutes left in the second half.
But the development will also raise speculation that Manafort may be seeking to curry favor with Trump or protecting other associates who worked on the campaign.
Russian Federation denies USA allegations it hacked Democratic Party emails and ran a disinformation campaign, largely on social media.
One of Manafort's closest business contacts for several years has been Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russia-based political operative who prosecutors have alleged has ties to the same Russian military intelligence service that allegedly hacked the Democrats.
The agreement pertains to one of two cases against Manafort.
As part of the plea deal, Manafort agreed to provide information on a "broad" array of topics in the hopes of getting a lighter sentence in his August conviction in Virginia on bank and tax fraud.
When he was last seen in public, in a Virginia federal courtroom about a month ago, Manafort was in a wheelchair and suffering from a health issue similar to gout.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in that case in February.
The plea deal Manafort agreed to would allow him to serve only 10 years of the possible 80 he was facing, as well as negate the need for a second trial. He met with the government on numerous occasions and answered the government's questions, his lawyers said in Monday's filing.
