First Lady Melania Trump unveiled the White House's gorgeous Christmas décor Monday, revealing a patriotic theme.
The 2018 theme is America's Treasures and a one-minute long trailer shows the first lady strolling through the presidential residence, taking in the festive decor and gently placing a bauble on a glowing tree. First lady Melania Trump spearheads the annual tradition. "On behalf of my family, we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year". But Melania Trump made a decision to sit this one out. Since at least Nancy Reagan's time, the first lady has appeared at the press event for the decorations' unveiling.
But the effect - essentially the flipside of last year's motif, in which the trees were solid white and also derided as horror movie worthy - didn't draw too many warm feelings on social media. When asked about an allegation from Rep. Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., that a quarter of White House staffers had used drugs before coming to work there, she deemed the accusation "unfair" and said she was sure the White House chief of staff would respond.
