The boss of a private clinic in the U.S. has resigned after a woman in a vegetative state reportedly gave birth.
"Local news website Azfamily.com first reported that the woman had been in a vegetative state for more than a decade after a near-drowning and that no workers were aware she was pregnant".
Cops have served a search warrant to obtain samples from every male employee at Hacienda HealthCare in the US.
An investigation is underway by Phoenix Police, as controversy mounts over the incident.
A Hacienda spokesperson said the facility was assisting with law enforcement and regulatory agencies on the "unprecedented matter" as well as reviewing its own "processes, protocols, and people". "The family would like me to convey that the baby boy has been born into a loving family and will be well cared for".
Officials with the San Carlos Apache Tribe said Tuesday that a woman Hacienda Healthcare patient in a vegetative state who gave birth is an enrolled member of the tribe.
Gary Orman, the executive vice president of the company's board, said it would "accept nothing less than a full accounting of this absolutely horrifying situation".
When asked about the warrant, a police spokesman said only that the investigation was ongoing.
Hacienda HealthCare said it welcomed the DNA testing of employees as detectives desperately try to solve the horrific case.

On its website, Hacienda HealthCare says it provides care for "medically fragile and chronically ill infants, children, teens, and young adults as well as those with intellectual and developmental disabilities".
Attorney John Micheaels, who confirmed to PEOPLE he has been retained by the women's devastated relatives, revealed the family is "outraged, traumatized and in shock by the abuse and neglect of their daughter at Hacienda Healthcare". In 2013, a male employee was found to have made sexually explicit remarks to patients, though no physical or sexual abuse allegations were made and the employee was sacked.
They said that staff became aware that the woman was giving birth when the vulnerable patient began "moaning". "I haven't been able to sleep well at night because of what occurred here", a mother, Angela Gomez, told CBS.
"We don't know who this person is yet".
